Iran deepens economic ties with BRICS amid ongoing conflict with U.S.

Iran's central bank governor said Thursday that the country intends to formally join the BRICS New Development Bank, a financial institution created as an alternative to Western structures such as the World Bank. The move is seen as part of Tehran's broader strategy to diversify its economic ties amid continued sanctions pressure and its ongoing military conflict with the United States. Iran has for several years been actively expanding trade and financial relations with China, Russia, and other BRICS member states in an effort to reduce reliance on dollar-based settlement systems. Joining the BRICS development bank could give Iranian companies access to additional financing for infrastructure and energy projects. For global investors, the news signals further fragmentation of the world financial system and the growing importance of alternative currency and settlement mechanisms.
