Kazakhstan's Finance Ministry Places Government Bonds Yielding up to 15.69% per Annum

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Finance conducted two separate auctions for long-term MEUKAM treasury bonds on KASE in a single trading day. The first issue (MUM096_0016) saw 48 million securities placed at a weighted average yield to maturity of 14.25% per annum, while the second issue (MUM096_0011) resulted in 54.2 million securities placed at 15.69% per annum. Such elevated yields on government instruments reflect the current level of the National Bank's base rate and prevailing inflation expectations in the country. For private investors, MEUKAM bonds offer a reliable fixed-income instrument backed by a government guarantee. Compared with most bank deposits, the yields are competitive, particularly for longer-term allocations. Investors looking to add defensive assets to their portfolios should keep an eye on secondary trading of these bonds on KASE.
