KASE Holds Special Auction to Place Local Government Bonds

The Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) held a special auction to place bonds issued by local government authorities across several regions of the country. During the session, investors were offered five separate debt issues, including bonds from the Zhetysu region worth over 3.6 billion tenge, carrying a semi-annual coupon of 17.27% per year with a 46-month maturity. Such placements are a common way to finance regional budgets and infrastructure projects through the debt market, and for conservative investors these instruments are attractive due to relatively high yields and government backing. The elevated coupon rates reflect the current base rate level and the cost of tenge-denominated borrowing in the Kazakh market. For retail investors, such issues can serve as an alternative to bank deposits when building the conservative portion of an investment portfolio.
